You just might be one of those lucky people who can go out and live wherever they choose. Maybe you have chosen a career where your skills are in high demand, such as the trades or nursing. Maybe you work from home or have your own business, and you are the only one who dictates where you need to be to carry that business out. You could buy a home for sale in Georgetown Ontario or a house in a Milwaukee zip code, either could be suitable to your lifestyle.

That means your decision will largely be one of preference and of course affordability. What are the house prices in Milwaukee like, and how do they stack up against housing markets in other parts of the continent? Those are the questions we will explore in the rest of this article.

First, consider the average listing price of a house for sale in the Milwaukee area. The center point of homes that sold in the fall of '09 was $155,000. For the geographic region, that is actually on the high end of things, but you don't need to look very far to see that that price is a real bargain. If you were looking to buy Brampton real estate further to the North, you could expect to pay at least twice as much for a similar house, and that is leaving aside the location for the moment.

While median prices can give you some indication of the market for a buyer in a location, they are not the end all be all. It's also worth it to take a look at average listing prices within a city such as Milwaukee. Like any city, there are some areas where homes are more expensive than others. Neighborhoods such as Fox Point, right on the shores of Lake Michigan, have higher price tags than centrally located Glendale. That's something true of all cities; Condos for Rent Toronto will be more in certain locations than in others.

What is very different about Milwaukee is again, the degree to which the prices fluctuate both on the local and international scale. You can expect to pay upwards of $500,000 for central Toronto homes, even more if you are buying in New York or another big city. In Milwaukee, downtown areas sell at below $100,000 in most areas; that is an incredible difference.

Of course, the reason for that difference is that downtown Milwaukee is not a desirable location. But again, compare the prices in the very desirable, waterfront neighborhoods like Whitefish Bay to other areas. These houses are selling for under $200,000, much less than similar Acton homes, within a city of 600,000 and right on the bay. That is pretty amazing when you think about it, and a good reason to consider buying real estate in a Milwaukee zip code.
